I first picked up a camera in 2011 when I started covering college sports in Arizona as a college student. I wasn’t fully serious as a photographer until 2015 when I bought a Nikon D50 with a 70-300mm lens, looking to get closer to the action

MLB

Of all the professional sports I have experience shooting, Major League Baseball has been my home. My sports media career started when I got my first press credential to cover the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011. My first photo credential came at Fenway Park in 2017. I then covered the Miami Marlins (2018-19), Colorado Rockies (2021-22) and the Marlins again this year.

It was always a source of pride for me to see my best photos make it at the newspaper. I never had the best camera equipment compared to my more professional contemporaries. Back then I was working with a Nikon D90 and whatever 300mm lens I could afford from the camera shop. However, when the sun is out on an afternoon game at Fenway Park, all the disadvantages disappear. My favorite moment in 2017 was seeing my picture of Mookie Betts played so majorly on the front of the Eagle-Tribune sports section.

NFL/UFL

When Ethan Skolnick started Five Reasons Sports in 2018, I joined as a photographer and covered the Miami Dolphins for two seasons (2018-19), during a time when the team went from trying to win with veterans to trying to “Tank for Tua”. It was one of the greatest experiences in my career, getting to watch an NFL game from the sidelines and capture the action. My only regret is it came during a time that I didn’t have a sophisticated understanding of camera equipment.

While in Missouri (2022-25) I covered the St. Louis Battlehawks during revival of the XFL, which later turned into the UFL. St. Louis lost the Rams after the 2015 season but the atmosphere in the Dome at America’s Center made Battlehawks games feel like Rams games of old. It wasn’t the “Greatest Show on Turf” but with former NFL tight end Anthony Becht at head coach and veteran NFL quarterback AJ McCarron under center, the Battlehawks made Professional football exciting in St. Louis.

College Basketball

College Basketball The NBA and NHL are two leagues that have the most limited opportunities to get photos credentials. However, college basketball depends on the school and I have been fortunate enough to cover every school in South Florida (Miami, FIU, FAU) this past year, shooting highlight clips for the YouTube channel (formerly known as My Miami Sports). I first covered college basketball at 2017 with SB Nation‘s Mid-Major Madness, covering games across New England. That led to me covering the 2018-19 Miami Hurricanes for Five Reasons Sports and Southeast Missouri State for the Southeast Missourian (2020, 2022-25) before coming back to Miami.

College Football

Despite going to school at the University of Arizona, my sports media career started when covering the Arizona State football team at the end of the 2011 season and 2012 campaign. Since then, I covered games in nine different states and numerous bowl games, including the Orange Bowl three times. Surprisingly, my favorite moments covering college football came during my time with the Southeast Missourian, covering the SEMO Redhawks, not because of the superiority of the FCS level but because those games felt like a true community event that I was a part of. 

MLS

My experience covering Major League Soccer is limited to St. Louis City SC’s entrance to the league. The stadium was built in 2023 and the team took the Western Conference by storm, finishing the regular season on top of the table. I was not a soccer fan at the time and sometimes struggled to write about it, but the atmosphere at Energizer Stadium always brought me back week after week.
