The Seattle Sounders entered Wednesday’s match against Houston having never lost to the Dynamo on their home turf. All streaks eventually snap, and it only took one fluke goal to end this one.

The Sounders fell 1-0 despite outshooting the Dynamo 21-2. The Sounders had possession of the ball for two-thirds of the game, made over twice as many passes, had nine more corner kicks and five more shots on goal, but were still blanked by the Dynamo.

The Dynamo scored in the 26th minute on a header by Lucas Halter from the center of the box to the bottom right corner of the net. Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond made six saves for the clean sheet.

The Sounders needed to win to clinch a playoff berth in the Western Conference with two more matches remaining. With their loss, the Sounders (11-10-11, 43 pts) dropped to eighth place in the standings, tied with the Colorado Rapids and one point ahead of Real Salt Lake.
